“Long Train Runnin'” is from The Doobie Brothers’ 1973 The Captain and Me album. The popular rock song started as a jam the band had in their live set for years. Band member Tom Johnson explained that it was mostly just a guitar riff he’d play with made-up lyrics. Producer Ted Templeman believed in the song and convinced Johnson to try to finish writing it. The words finally came to the reluctant writer as he was sitting in the bathroom at Amigo Studios in Burbank. Remembering that day, Johnson says he came out, sang it, and the record was finished. The backing track for “Long Train Runnin'” is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
