Bearded Texan creators of tongue-in-cheek rock, ZZ Top, stepped out with their southern bluesy rock single "La Grange" in 1973 and hit the jackpot. "La Grange" was a radio staple that climbed to Number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1974. The song's title and content revolves around the notorious Chicken Ranch outside La Grange, Texas, that was widely known as a brothel from 1905 until 1973 ("Rumor spreadin' 'round in that Texas town / About that shack outside La Grange / And you know what I'm talkin' about / Just let me know if you wanna go / To that home out on the range / They gotta lotta nice girls"). "La Grange" was featured on ZZ Top's third album Tres Hombres, (1973) which was released on London Records and represented a commercial high-water mark for the trio of guitarist Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard who bagged a Top 10 for the LP and their first gold record. ZZ Top were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
