"Unchained Melody" is a song recorded by the American blue-eyed soul duo The Righteous Brothers. Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield had many hits throughout the 60s including "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "(You're my) Soul and Inspiration". The singers often sang together on the same song but would choose one song on each album to sing as a solo. The higher-voiced Hatfield loved "Unchained Melody". It was a song included in the 1955 prison film Unchained, and several instrumental versions had been hits. The song's soaring melody would be a challenge for most singers but after recording a few takes of it, Hatfield came back in the studio to record the line "I need your love" even higher for the final verse. His performance on "Unchained Melody" is considered a vocal tour de force. The backing track for "Unchained Melody" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental.
