Bringing traditional country flavour and a flurry of rock and pop accents to a table full of Latin influences, platinum-selling Miami Tex-Mex duo The Mavericks were one of the best-selling US groups of the '90s, known best for their era-defining 1998 hit "Dance the Night Away". On their eighth studio offering, Mono, (2015) – which was nominated for Best Americana Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards – they opted for a novel recording approach, capturing the album in monophonic sound to cast a vintage glow over the LP's 12 tracks. Kicking up a riot of horns, "Stories We Could Tell" is the fifth track on the LP and playfully depicts a rendezvous in a bar; "So let me carry on and move us right along / Right to the point of no return / Sure enough, there is no place I would rather be / After you walked in all the lights went dim / And the music played all night / I may exaggerate, but that's what you are to me".
