A riotous, party-starting golden oldie from the golden age of teen dance parties, "At The Hop" – its title itself a nod to the record hops or sock hops of the mid-20th-century – immortalizes the spirit of American Bandstand and captures the rock 'n roll fervour of the time. This 1950s pop bop was written by Artie SingerJohn Medora and David White and originally released by Philadelphia's doo-wop and rock 'n roll vocal group Danny & the Juniors. Released in 1957, it took the US Number 1 spot the following January, becoming one of the top-selling singles of 1958. Opening with joyous boogie-woogie piano and buoyant multi-part harmonies, "At The Hop" is an electrifying invitation to dance and "do the bop". A song with enduring appeal, in 1973 "At The Hop" reached a new generation of fans when it was featured in iconic coming-of-age teen movie American Graffiti.
