"Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley & His Comets is the first rock and roll record to top the charts. The song stayed in the number one spot for two months in 1954. Rock and roll was so new that the record company described the song as "Novelty Foxtrot" on the single's label sticker. "Rock Around the Clock" almost didn't happen. It was recorded as the B side to "Thirteen Women (and Only One Man in Town)", a song about a nuclear bomb leaving only one man and 13 women. "Rock Around the Clock" was initially a commercial disappointment, but after being featured in the popular film Blackboard Jungle, it took off. The song became a teen anthem that inspired a generation of young people to become rock musicians.
The backing track for "Rock Around the Clock" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
