Making reference to "Come Together, Join The Party" – the campaign slogan of psychedelic drugs visionary Timothy Leary who ran for Governor of California in 1969 and invited John Lennon to pen this song – The Beatles' lysergic and litigious track from their 1969 album Abbey Road has a colorful history. Banned by the BBC due to the track's brief coca-cola reference, "Come Together" – which was released as a single with "Something" and peaked at Number 4 in the UK – picked up a Grammy for Best Engineered Recording in 1969 and became embroiled in a copyright infringement claim when John Lennon was sued for stealing the guitar riff and the line "Here comes old flat-top" from Chuck Berry's 1956 song "You Can't Catch Me." The case was eventually settled out of court and "Come Together" went on to be reworked by a number of artists over the years, from Ike & Tina Turner to Aerosmith and Gary Clark Jr. & Junkie XL.
