Nodding to Bob Marley's "Buffalo Solider" in the first verse ("Stolen from an Africa land / Chased out with a knife / With a face like Bob Marley / And a mouth like a motor bike") and the reggae with which the late legend is synonymously linked ("Tell them reggae music is on the loose") while luxuriating over sumptuous reggae-infused basslines, Long Beach leisure-seekers Sublime raised the bar for ska-punk with this highlight from their 1992 album. On "Don't Push," the group lure you in with a false sense of chill before upping the intensity levels and fleshing out the track with fuller-bodied, multi-layered vocals from singer Bradley Nowell. The track was featured on Sublime's hippie dippie weed-loving album 40oz. to Freedom, which was released on the aptly named Skunk Records and later reissued by MCA, and blazed a trail for the sun-drenched '90s ska-punk phenomenon that followed in its wake.
