There’s a hard-hitting reality behind Queen’s indelible pop classic, “Another One Bites the Dust,” which was released in August 1980 and featured on the group's eighth studio album The Game (1980). The disco-indebted funk-pop song, which was written by the band’s bassist John Deacon, was inspired by a documentary about the 1929 Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre - a gang attack in Chicago during Prohibition which left seven people dead - and begins with a scene-setting opening verse: “Steve walks warily down the street / With the brim pulled way down low / Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet / Machine guns ready to go / Are you ready? Hey, are you ready for this? / Are you hanging on the edge of your seat? / Out of the doorway the bullets rip / To the sound of the beat, yeah.” "Another One Bites the Dust" is among Queen's signature songs and quite rightly won an American Music Award for Favorite Rock Single, also garnering a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
