Queen took their cue from gospel to create their soul-dipped epic "Somebody To Love" in 1976. With Freddy Mercury channeling his love of Aretha Franklin into a song that employed multitracking techniques to make the voices of Queen's Roger Taylor, Brian May and Freddie Mercury sound like a choir – with Roger Taylor hitting all the high notes, – the central narrative of "Somebody To Love" concerns an anguished man asking God why he is so hopeless in love. "Can anybody find me somebody to love?" yells Freddy Mercury. The song was the sixth track on the UK band's sixth album, 1976's A Day at the Races, and also appears on their 1981 compilation album Greatest Hits. In 1992, George Michael stepped up to the plate to perform the song at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert at Wembley Stadium; arguably the showstopping performance of the night.

It's getting harder & harder to tell your versions from the real thing & to perfectionists like me that's pretty high praise.... ;)
