Even though British-Australian singer Olivia Newton-John had scored a handful of folk-inspired singles in the United Kingdom in the early years of her career, it was her third studio album Let Me Be There (also known as Music Makes My Day in the UK) that finally helped her break into the American market. Largely rooted in the country-pop genre, Let Me Be There was released in the US in November 1973 and went straight to the top of Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, also reaching Number 54 on the Billboard 200. The album was promoted through the singles "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and the title track, a pop gem with enough twang to captivate even the most hardcore country music fans. Written by John Rostill, "Let Me Be There" is a heartwarming plea from one lover to another, in which the singer asks her partner to let her be there through the ups and downs in his life. It was Olivia Newton-John's first Top 10 single in the United States and won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocalist. It was also certified Gold in the US and Platinum in Canada.
