After rising to fame on the sixth season of The Voice and signing to Panacea Records, Tennessee country star Morgan Wallen dropped his debut EP, Stand Alone, in 2015 before going on to release his first full-length, If I Know Me in 2018, followed by Dangerous: The Double Album in 2021. Acoustic-led confessional "You Proof" is a standalone single from 2022, a drinking songs-meets-heartbreaker on which he sings about "throwin' down the whiskey' to 'drown the memory' but 'nothin' makes you go away.' Written by Morgan Wallen along with Ashley Gorley, Ernest K. Smith, and Charlie Handsome, the track provided his fans with a taste of his as-yet-to-be-released third studio album, and went straight to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs in May 2022, toppling his own track, "Thought You Should Know," from the top spot and becoming his fifth country number-one to date.
