In 2022, country singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson released her overall fourth and second major-label album, Bell Bottom Country. Produced by Grammy Award-winning record producer Jay Joyce, who had previously worked with Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, and Emmylou Harris, Bell Bottom Country perfectly synthesized Lainey Wilson's musical DNA in 16 tracks that combined her love for country music with influences from 1970s rock, funk, and soul. Chosen as the album's lead single was "Watermelon Moonshine," a nostalgic country ballad that finds the country artist looking back on a short but intense teenage fling as subtle flourishes of slide guitar hover in the background. Written by Lainey Wilson with Josh Kear and Jordan Schmidt, "Watermelon Moonshine" didn't enter the country charts in the US but it was later featured in the popular television show Yellowstone on the episode "Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You."
