American singer-songwriter Jason DeFord, known professionally as Jelly Roll, was able to successfully shift from a decidedly hip-hop sound to a successful career as a country music performer. After the chart-topping success of his 2021 album Ballads of the Broken, which featured hits such as "Son of a Sinner," he continues to expand on the country sound with the 2022 single "Need a Favor." A fiery song about searching for help in spirituality during times of personal turmoil, "Need a Favor" features a dramatic and impassioned performance by the singer, aided by blues-influenced country-rock backing. The lyrics tell the story of a man coming face to face with his darkest impulses and begging to God for help as he comes close to losing the person he loves the most. "Need a Favor" was co-written by Jelly Roll alongside Austin Nivarel, Joe Ragosta, and Rob Ragosta. It serves as the first single to his 2023 album Whitsitt Chapel, the singer’s first full-length country music release.
