American country music sensation Morgan Wallen released his smash hit album One Thing at a Time in 2023, pushing his career to new levels of success. The album topped the Billboard 200 albums chart, and several of the album’s 36 songs have charted at the same time. One of these tracks is "Last Night," the album’s third single. Co-written by John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, and Ryan Vojtesak, the song is about a couple having their "last night" together. Featuring a pop-leaning contemporary country sound with a hip-hop influenced lyrical flow, "Last Night" is based around a circular acoustic guitar line backed by tuned 808s and finger snaps. The song reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, marking Morgan Wallen's first number-one single on the chart. It also made history as the first country song by a solo male artist to top the Hot 100 in over 42 years, since Eddie Rabbitt's "I Love a Rainy Night" in 1980.
