"Party! Party!," implores charismatic singer Donal Boyce at the start of this decadent '70s favourite. And you can't get much funkier than Kool and the Gang, whose flaming, gold-plated 1973 romp immortalises the restless spirit of the era in all its horns-driven finery. Initially clocking in at nine minutes before being trimmed down to a more digestible three minute-single, released in time for summer, "Funky Stuff" – which unwittingly blazed a trail for the humble whistle – gave the group their first major hit, with the song making it to number five on the R&B charts while becoming one of the enduring cornerstones of funk. "Funky Stuff" was featured on the group's 1973 album Wild and Peaceful, their fourth full-length LP, which conceived top ten singles and far-out Kool and the Gang gems "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging" and was produced by the group's Robert "Kool" Bell.
