Kelly Clarkson took on "the King" for her very first festive album in 2013 and pulled it off. Putting her stamp on melancholy country staple "Blue Christmas," written by Billy Hayes and Jay W. Johnson and most famously performed by Elvis Presley, she kept the arrangement sounding retro while tearing through the song's sad lyrics ("And when those blue snowflakes start falling / That's when those blue memories start calling") like a genuine country heartbreaker. "Blue Christmas" was featured on Kelly Clarkson's sixth studio album, the genre-mashing festive favourite Wrapped in Red, which was the follow-up to her first greatest hits album, Greatest Hits – Chapter One, and its companion EP, The Smoakstack Sessions Vol. 2. Produced by Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia, Halsey), Wrapped in Red also features five original songs co-penned with the pop powerhouse, including the title track and "4 Carats."
