Later in their career, American rock band Beach Boys would go on to become known for, among other things, using sleigh bells in songs that aren’t Christmas songs. But “Little Saint Nick,” the 1964 single that brought competitive racing and Santa Claus together thematically, features the sleigh bells front and center in a way that feels completely appropriate. “Little Saint Nick” was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love, and produced by Brian Wilson. It derives some of its musical elements from the band’s own song “Little Deuce Coupe,” also co-written by Brian Wilson. The song was partly inspired by Phil Spector’s idea to record a Christmas album with the band. “Little Saint Nick” peaked at Number 30 on the US Billboard Hot 100, Number 22 on the US Holiday 100 chart, and Number 25 on the US Rolling Stone Top 100 list. It would also attain Silver certification for sales of over 200,000 units.
