One of the more beautiful moments on Fleetwood Mac's classic 1977 album Rumours, “Songbird” conveys the selflessness and self-sacrifice of love. Late songwriter Christine McVie, who passed away following a brief illness on 30 November 2022, built the ballad from piano and emotive yet simple lyrics that tug on the heartstrings ("For you, there'll be no more crying / For you, the sun will be shining / And I feel that when I'm with you / It's alright, I know it's right"). "Songbird" was released as the B-side to the band's hit single "Dreams" and is one of four songs written solely by Christine McVie on Fleetwood Mac's eleventh studio album Rumours, which is regularly voted one of the best albums of all-time. In 2021, Christine McVie named a new solo collection of music after "Songbird," which comprised a mixture of songs from her two solo albums plus a smattering of unreleased songs, including “All You Gotta Do.”
