Troubled times often lead to great art. It’s a cliché, but it’s also true. And Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 masterpiece Rumours, an album that was troubled by personal issues, romantic strife, and addiction, among other things, is a great testament to that. The band’s many issues made for a uniquely compelling piece of music, and they would also often seep into the lyrics. “Go Your Own Way,” the first song written by Lindsey Buckingham for the album, was written almost spontaneously; the rising tension within the band (and within Buckingham’s relationship with bandmate Stevie Nicks) was clearly in need of a song-shaped vessel to spill into. “Go Your Own Way” also features an unusual, stuttering rhythm by drummer Mick Fleetwood, which raised eyebrows within the music world at the time but eventually became known as one of the song’s key strengths. “Go Your Own Way” peaked at Number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Vocal Arrangement. It is now considered a classic rock staple.

The Bass needs to come up a bit. Bass line and drums drive this song, otherwise quite good! -
