Stevie Nicks wrote "The Chain" about Lindsey Buckingham as their relationship was on its way out, and the song remains one of Fleetwood Mac's finest; a signature hit that came to embody the Teflon-like strength of the British-American band who ruled the '70s. "And if you don't love me now / You will never love me again / I can still hear you saying / You would never break the chain (Never break the chain)," they decried, with the duo sharing lead vocals. "The Chain" was one of the biggest hits on the band's seminal 1977 album, Rumours, and the only song credited to all five members of that specific lineup. Rumours was the eleventh studio album to be released by Fleetwood Mac and is universally lauded as their career-defining triumph, winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1977 as well as producing four Top Ten singles, including "Go Your Own Way" (written by Lindsey Buckingham) and chart-topper "Dreams" (written by Stevie Nicks).
