American singer-songwriter Cody Jinks has had an interesting journey since the beginning of his music career in the late 1990s. After fronting a thrash metal band called Unchecked Aggression from 1998 to 2003, he took a sabbatical from his artistic endeavors and returned to activity in 2005 as an outlaw country singer, a genre he grew up listening to. Following his official recording debut with Collector's Item (2006) and a second album titled Cast No Stones (2008), Cody Jinks delivered his third independently-released full-length Less Wise in 2010. Despite not reaching the main country charts in the United States, the album was a significant leap forward in terms of songwriting and sold better than his previous efforts. It also included the song "Last Call for the Blues," a languid, slow-burning country number about an alcoholic man coming to terms with his own addiction after getting a reality check from the people around him.
