Melding outlaw country with southern rock, Haltom City, Texas-born singer-songwriter Cody Jinks scored a Number 4 Billboard County hit with his 2016 album I'm Not the Devil, later making it to Number 2 on the Billboard Country Albums chart with his 2018 album, Lifers. In between, he headed to the Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas to record the Adobe Sessions – named after the small adobe (mudbrick) room in which they recorded the album – which was released in 2015, and featured "Loud and Heavy" among 11 other tracks. "Loud thunder heavy rain / Thin line between joy and pain / It's a long strange trip it's all insane / You ain't never gonna be the same / Living life through the night / Thin line of a lightning strike / Sometimes the only light / When the moon is tucked away," sings Cody Jinks in his husky baritone on a back-to-nature song that evokes the earth, the sky and the moon.
