Cody Jinks tells the heartbreaking tale of his childhood friend David who died in a car accident. The maudlin country song, which was featured on Cody Jinks's 2015 release Adobe Sessions, ultimately ends on a deeply tragic note. "And I found his truck in the floodplain upside down / It was a hell of a rain I don't know if he drowned / Or if he died on impact, must have rolled three times / Yeah, the only thing to make matters worse / Is that his mama's a late night ER nurse / And he was DOA, she just about lost her mind," he sings over smooth and scratchy strings that soundtrack a hard-hitting dose of real-life. Cody Jinks visited the Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas to record the Adobe Sessions – named after the small adobe (mudbrick) room in which they recorded the album – which featured "David" among 11 other tracks and made it to Number 2 on Billboard's regional Heatseekers charts – Heatseekers South Central and Number 8 on Heatseekers Mountain.
