Arkansas-born country singer-songwriter Ashley McBryde wrote 2020's southern gothic tale "Martha Divine" from the perspective of an angry young girl who knows her father is cheating on her mother. In the 2020 track, the titular Martha Divine is a "jezebel" "bound for hell," with Ashley McBryde taking some inspiration for the dark country pop-rock song from a Kentucky urban legend: the Martha Divine swimming hole. “I saw you sneakin’, I know what happened, I think it’s kinda funny you got caught only I ain’t laughin’”, she sings, before the hook-laden chorus materializes: “Martha Divine, Martha Divine, you put your hands on the wrong damn man this time”. Co-written with Jeremy Spillman, "Martha Divine" was featured on Ashley McBryde's fourth studio album Never Will, which was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country Album and the Country Music Association Award for Album of the Year.
