This tinsel-topped glam rocker from Wizzard was originally recorded during the height of summer in August 1973, with engineer Steve Brown turning down the studio's air conditioning in order to get the band in a chilly mood, and is now as traditional at Christmas as brussels sprouts and passing out in front of the telly. "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" was written by the short-lived Birmingham band's singer and leader Roy Wood (previously a member of The Move and Electric Light Orchestra) while backing vocals were provided by the Suedettes, aka Stockland Green School's first-year choir. Astonishingly, "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" only made it to number four on the UK charts at the time (pipped to the post by Slade's "Merry Xmas Everybody," which seized the Christmas number one spot in 1973) but has been re-issued countless times over the years and has been a regular fixture on the top 40 since 2007.
