As legend has it, José Feliciano wrote his homesickness anthem and paean to Puerto Rico, "Feliz Navidad" in just ten minutes. It proved to be a ten minutes very well-spent because the Puerto Rican songwriter whipped up a bilingual, Latin pop snowstorm that became one of the best-known and most-played Christmas songs in the US, and indeed, the world. Featuring both acoustic guitar and Puerto Rican cuatro from José Feliciano, "Feliz Navidad" was included on the José Feliciano album of the same name, which was originally called José Feliciano and released in 1970, but was later reissued in 1989 with "Feliz Navidad" in addition to three other original songs, "Las Posadas", "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" and "O Come All Ye Faithful." In 2017, José Feliciano went off piste to put a new, ska-powered spin on "Feliz Navidad" for a collaboration with the notorious Jools Holland.
