American rock band Weezer followed their smash 1994 self-titled debut album (most commonly referred to as "The Blue Album") with 1997’s Pinkerton, a raw and unpolished collection of strange and idiosyncratic songs that deviated greatly from their debut album’s more radio-friendly sound. One of Pinkerton’s highlights was "Pink Triangle," released as the third and final single from the album. Written by Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo and produced by the band as a whole, "Pink Triangle" describes a protagonist who finds himself in the search for love. When he finds someone he likes, he laments the fact that she is a lesbian. The protagonist mentions seeing a pink triangle on the sleeve of his crush, which is a symbol of the LGBT movement. Though "Pink Triangle" is a melodic song with a catchy chorus, Pinkerton’s harder-edged production and abrasive instrumental sound make it fit perfectly into a very unique package. Over the years, "Pink Triangle" has grown to be considered one of Weezer’s best songs. .
