One-of-a-kind funk troupe The Ohio Players scored a defining, sample-friendly hit in 1973's chart-sizzling "Funky Worm," unknowingly creating the template for G-funk and providing endless sample fodder for hip-hoppers. Maintaining their winning streak, 1974 album Skin Tight, their fifth studio LP to date, saw the group hit even higher commercial highs to assume funk domination, also reaching a wider audience with their tightly-woven sound that they had been honing in various forms since the '60s.
