Flying the flag for Ohio's storied funk scene, Lakeside formed in Dayton in 1969, and spent the 1970s honing their voice across a string of singles before striking gold with their 1980 R&B chart-topper "Fantastic Voyage" and top ten R&B follow-up "I Want to Hold Your Hand," a reinterpretation of The Beatles' song of the same name. Funk-laden party-starter "It's All the Way Live"—which begins with a joy-filled declaration of intent ("If you wanna party / Come on in and party hearty / Where the people get together / They don’t care about the weather") was featured on the group's 1978 album Shot of Love, which is often wrongly thought of as their debut album but was in fact the group's second LP. The album was brought to life by a unique theme and cover that showed Lakeside as Robin Hood-esque archers and spawned hits in the soul ballads "Given in to Love" and "Visions of My Mind."
