The Intruders aka Sam “Little Sonny” Brown, Eugene “Bird” Daughtry, Phillip “Phil” Terry, and Robert “Big Sonny” Edwards began life as a doo-wop group in 1960 before latching onto the nascent Philly soul scene of the late '60s where they morphed into major players. They signed with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff's precursor to Philadelphia International Records, Gamble, in 1966 and bagged a top 20 R&B hit with "(We'll Be) United." Released the following year, "Together" gave The Intruders another chart victory, rising to number 48 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and going to number nine on the R&B chart.
