The Doobie Brothers conjured a mysterious vision of a "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" on their mystical 1973 song. "Dark-eyed Cajun woman / Where are you comin' from / Your soul is in the backwoods / They say you never had a home / But I'm gonna know you better / If it takes all night and day / Dark-eyed Cajun woman / You'll never get away, no, no," sings the band's Tom Johnston, who penned the track as tribute to the blues and blues legend B.B. King. "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman" was featured on The Doobie Brothers' third studio album, The Captain and Me – their 1973 full-length LP which also spawned hits in Long Train Runnin’”, China Grove," and "Without You" and which also featured Jeff Baxter of Steely Dan on pedal steel guitar. The Grammy-winning, genre-blending band were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2020.
