Penned by songwriters Hugh Martin and Ralph Blaine, and originally recorded by Judy Garland for the 1944 Christmas musical Meet Me in St. Louis, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was once compared to a madrigal by co-writer Hugh Martin. In 1978, Karen Carpenter stepped into Judy Garland's ruby slippers and put her own cinematic stamp on this soft-centered festive sweet. "Have yourself a merry little Christmas / Let your heart be light / Next year all our troubles / Will be out of sight," she croons in the opening verse, bringing her sophisticated pop touch to these comforting lines: "Someday soon we all will be together / If the fates allow / Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow / So have yourself a merry little Christmas now." "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was featured on the Carpenters' first Christmas album, Christmas Portrait, which was released in October 1978.

I sound a lot like Karen Carpenter, can't wait to sing with this.
