"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is one of the world's most popular Christmas songs. It was written for the 1944 Judy Garland film, Meet Me in St. Louis, by Ralph Blane and Hugh Martin. Though possessing a beautiful melody, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" has a distinctly melancholy tone. Garland initially refused to sing the song, deeming it too depressing. With her urging, the original lyric, "It may be your last / Next year we may all be living in the past" became "Let your heart be light / Next year all our troubles will be out of sight." When Frank Sinatra recorded the song, he asked the writers to come up with a more upbeat line for "Until then, we'll have to muddle through somehow," so that line became "Hang a shining star upon the highest bough."
The backing track for "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
