As Polish Jews, they endured a number of concentration camps and were finally liberated from Auschwitz at the end of WWII; Geddy Lee's mother had been held in the Bergen-Belsen camp, the place where Anne Frank died. Geddy Lee was moved to write "Red Sector A" from the stories he had been told about his parents' experiences, and the result is a work of intensely personal significance, and one of the most serious songs to date created by one of Canada's best-loved and most resilient rock bands.
