Inspired by bassist Roger Waters's experience of being injected with tranquilizers before a live performance in 1977, Pink Floyd favorite "Comfortably Numb" details a drug-induced dreamscape ("You are only coming through in waves / Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying") and a mind-bending journey through past, present and future. David Gilmour is on hand with not one, but two effects-touched guitar solos that come careening through the haze and make your hairs stand on end. Featured on Pink Floyd's eleventh album, The Wall (1979), "Comfortably Numb" was released as a single in 1980 with "Hey You" as the B-side. The song has been played live at a number of notable events, including the 1990 concert staging of The Wall – Live in Berlin on 21 July 1990, a concert to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 2004, US disco-pop purveyors Scissor Sisters reimagined the song and made it to Number 10 on the UK Singles Chart.
