For the second part of their satirical prog-rock epic, Pink Floyd enlisted a group of school children from Islington, London to sing on the track and hammer home its school-hating message. "We don't need no education / We don't need no education / No dark sarcasm in the classroom / Teacher, leave them kids alone / Hey! Teacher! Leave them kids alone! / We don't need no thought control," they cry. Following on from "Another Brick in the Wall (part 1)" – which introduces the story of Pink and the central metaphor of 'putting up emotional walls' backed by a haunting soundscape – songwriter Roger Waters continues to air his views on formal education. Featured on the band's seminal rock opera and eleventh studio album The Wall (1979), "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2” is Pink Floyd’s only Number 1 in both the US and the UK, and was a chart-topper in at least six other countries in the spring of 1980.
