A veritable Christmas hit factory, Pentatonix have nailed the stripped-back holiday cover song formula, picking up a Grammy for their take on "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from The Nutcracker and scoring the highest-charting holiday album by a group since 1962 for 2014 album That's Christmas to Me, the third studio LP from the Texan a cappella troupe. "Mary, Did You Know?" sits all the way at the very top of the That's Christmas to Me tree, a cover of the Christian song with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984 and music written by Buddy Greene in 1991. The Pentatonix single debuted and peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at Number 26, as well as soaring to Number 7 on the Adult Contemporary chart, with the album – released in October 2014 through RCA Records – peaking at Number 2 on the Billboard 200 and certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
