Hollywood films have brought us a lot of memorable music; from iconic theme songs such as the James Bond theme, to soundtrack contributions such as The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News. A great example of the latter is Oingo Boingo's Weird Science,” which served as the theme song to the 1985 film and 1994 TV series of the same name. Written by frontman Danny Elfman, the song was a personal request from the film’s director John Hughes. Weird Science is a new wave/dance rock track that incorporates some of the sci-fi elements present in the film through the use of sound effects and production flourishes. It was produced by Danny Elfman and Steve Bartek. Aside from being released as part of the Weird Science soundtrack, the song was also included in Oingo Boingo’s 1985 album Dead Man’s Party. It was a significant hit for Oingo Boingo, peaking at Number 45 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it the band’s most successful single.
