With Halloween-ready names like "The Crawling Eye," "Witch Hunt," "Die Monster Die," and "Pumpkinhead," the eighth track on Misfits' Halloween-ready album Scary Monsters feels like an outlier in a sea of bad apples. The innocently titled "Saturday Night" finds the horror-punk forefathers in rare ballad country for a '50s be-bop-styled track. However, depending on how you choose to interpret it, its lyrics aren't perhaps quite as innocent. Is this a song about murder or heartbreak? "There's fifty-two ways to murder anyone / One and two are the same and they both work as well / I'm coming clean for Amy / Julie doesn't scream as well and the cops won't listen all night / And so maybe I'll be over / Just as soon as I fill them all in." Released in 1999 after Glenn Danzig had been replaced by frontman Michale Graves, Famous Monsters was the second post-Danzig album and notably the last album to also feature Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and Dr. Chud, who left the following year.
