After pogoing onto the scene in the late 1970s, Misfits went on to produce two trend-setting specimens of horror punk, Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), before calling it quits in 1983. However, they returned 12 years later, complete with a shiny new lineup that replaced iconic frontman Glenn Danzig with a new lead singer, Michale Graves. "Helena" is a grotesque and gory thrasher taken from the band's 1999 Famous Monsters album for Roadrunner, the second full-length release to be conceived following their reformation. Based on the 1993 movie flop Boxing Helena, an experimental thriller directed by Jennifer Lynch, "Helena" depicts the toxic story of a surgeon whose obsession with the titular protagonist takes a stomach-churning turn when he decides to amputate her arms and legs as he holds her captive ("There's a spot on the floor where your limbs used to be / And I close the door on my fantasies").
