"Halloween" is a song by the iconic American horror punk band Misfits. It was released on October 31, 1981, via Plan 9 Records. Written by frontman Glenn Danzig, the track's portrayal of Halloween's grim side contrasts with its child-friendly image, featuring shocking imagery like dead cats and burning bodies, and lyrics in Latin. During its recording process, guitarist Bobby Steele was replaced by Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, younger brother of bassist Jerry Only. In time, "Halloween" became one of the band's signature songs, and different versions were included in compilations like Legacy of Brutality (1985) and Collection II (1995). Notably, the "Halloween" single cover was the first to use 'Misfits' instead of 'The Misfits,' introducing their horror-styled logo, reminiscent of the magazine Famous Monsters of Finland. Over the following decades, the song's influence was evidenced by several cover versions by the likes of Mudhoney, AFI, and Dropkick Murphys.
