Misfits love a B-movie theme and this space-punk rockabilly-whipped stomper shows them in their element. “Teenagers from Mars” was one of the first tracks the band recorded after forming in Lodi, New Jersey in 1977, and was initially contained on their sprawling hardcore horror-punk opus Static Age; one of 17 tracks recorded in 30 hours over the course of a few months in 1978. However, after Misfits failed to find a record label willing to put out the album, "Teenagers from Mars" was released as the B-side (along with "Children in Heat") to their third single "Horror Business" (1979), which was issued on Glenn Danzig's own label, Plan 9 Records, and thought to have been inspired by the unsolved murder of Sid Vicious's girlfriend Nancy Spungen. Static Age finally reared its head in 1996, when it was released as part of the Misfits box set, and "Teenagers from Mars" remains a highlight and a time capsule of a band in their prime.
