With their unique combination of roaring, guitar-influenced guitars and catchy vocals with outlandish lyrics, American punk rock band Misfits made a splash on the music scene with the release of their debut album Walk Among Us (1982). Led by frontman Glenn Danzig, the group set out to create an amalgam of punk, glam rock, and horror/sci-fi imagery that would go on to influence an entire generation of musicians. “Astro Zombies” became one of the album’s standout tracks, a twisted love song that brings the horror imagery of George Romero together with the kind of blend of darkness, humor, and romanticism that would go on to be popularized by the likes of Tim Burton and My Chemical Romance in later years. Like the rest of Walk Among Us, “Astro Zombies” was self-produced and written by Glenn Danzig. Though not exactly a mainstream success, the album is now hailed as a landmark of the nascent horror-punk genre.
