"Bleeding Me" is a Metallica song from their sixth studio album Load. Unlike their earlier heavy metal albums, Load incorporates musical influences from southern rock, blues, and country. The lyrics were more introspective with themes of addiction and depression. In talking about "Bleeding Me," lead singer James Hetfield said he came to a place where he wanted to stop drinking. He started going to therapy and working through some things from his childhood, describing it as bleeding out the bad, getting the evil out. "I'm diggin' my way / I'm diggin' my way to somethin' / I'm diggin' my way to somethin' better." While some fans were initially put off by the band's new sound, drummer Lars Ulrich said, "The minute you stop exploring, then just sit down and f***ing die.”
