Marilyn Manson does his best Screamin' Jay Hawkins impression on this track from the band's 1995 EP Smells Like Children, originally written and performed by the latter shock rock bluesman in 1956. Blues ballad "I Put a Spell on You" was voted as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and has been covered by numerous artists over the years including Nina Simone, who reached number 23 on the US Billboard R&B chart with her version in 1965, Creedence Clearwater Revival, who went to number 58 on the US Hot 100 with their take in 1968, and Bryan Ferry, who cracked the UK top 20 in 1993. This sinister rework of "I Put a Spell on You" was featured as the ninth track on Marilyn Manson's debut EP Smells Like Children, which was produced by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and makes a reference to the Child Catcher, the terrifying villain from the 1968 musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
