Even though American country singer-songwriter Koe Wetzel first achieved commercial success with his third studio album Harold Saul High (2019), he had already established himself as one of the most innovative artists in the country scene, fusing traditional subgenres such as country rock and outlaw country with elements from 1990s grunge and hip-hop. After making his debut in 2015 with the self-released album Out on Parole, credited to Koe Wetzel and the Konvicts, the Texas native released his second long player Noise Complaint through the independent label YellaBush in 2017. Although Noise Complaint failed to enter the charts at the time of its release, it featured the track "Something to Talk About," an energic country-rock tune that quickly became both a fan favorite and one of his trademark songs. Entirely written by Koe Wetzel, "Something to Talk About" is a witty comment on the prevalence of gossip in small towns.
