James Brown has 'soul' and he's 'super bad' on this stone-cold funk classic from October 1970 that went on to become a timeless source of pop culture inspiration. Originally released as a three-part single, "Super Bad" shot to Number 1 on the US R&B chart and reached Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The hit track featured a cavalcade of musicians comprising James Brown's band the J.B.'s, including Robert McCollough who tears through a squall of tenor saxophone, Clayton "Chicken" Gunnells on trumpet and Bobby Byrd on the Hammond organ. "Super Bad," which was originally titled "Call Me Super Bad," was brought to life by James Brown on Soul Train on February 10, 1973 who breathed fire into its lyrics: "I got something that makes me wanna shout / I got something that tells me what it's all about / Huh, I got soul, and I'm super bad" and reminded of his unrivalled talent as a live performer.
