Whether "The Power of Love" transformed Back to Future into the '80s blockbuster we know and love today, or the movie made the song into a classic, is up for debate, but their relationship was certainly mutually beneficial. Still reeling from the stadium-sized success of their 1983 album Sports – with its stash of MTV-friendly music videos – Huey Lewis and the News wrote “The Power of Love” specifically for Robert Zemeckis's 1985 sci-fi romp. The new wave song was used to soundtrack a scene in the movie where protagonist Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) hears it as he rides his skateboard from Doc's (played by Christopher Lloyd) house to school. This freewheeling snapshot of the '80s gave Huey Lewis & The News their first Number one hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as becoming the band's only single, released as a double-A side with "Do You Believe in Love," to court the Top 10 in the UK.
