"Footloose" is a song by Kenny Loggins from the 1984 film of the same name. Loggins first found success as one-half of the successful duo, Loggins and Messina, and then as a solo artist. Just when it looked like things might be slowing down in the 80s, he started writing songs for films. His first big soundtrack hit was "I'm Alright" from Caddyshack, followed by "Footloose." Loggins got his first #1 and an Academy Award nomination with "Footloose." The lyrics describe the irrepressible urge to dance in a town that forbids dancing. The movie soundtrack knocked Michael Jackson's Thriller from the top position and stayed there for 10 weeks. Loggins went on to more soundtrack success with "Danger Zone" from Top Gun and "Nobody's Fool" from Caddyshack II. Loggins is the first male artist to have four songs from films in the top 10. "Footloose" remains his biggest hit.
